Chris Maene Collection & museum - Brussels

Museum of Belgian Pianos

The Chris Maene collection of historical keyboard instruments now includes more than 300 unique instruments. Part of this collection is now permanently displayed on the upper floors of the Brussels Piano's Maene branch. Visit the piano museum that focuses on Belgian piano building.

Chris Maene has had a love for historical keyboard instruments since his childhood. Witness to this are the many replicas that the Chris Maene atelier has built over the years: various instruments from the time of Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin, Liszt, etc. on which their music can be performed perfectly. The passion for the piano quickly resulted in the creation of a large collection of historical keyboard instruments, which today numbers around 300 instruments. From these 300 instruments, 80 of which are by Belgian makers, the Maene family selected 25 leading instruments that deserve a place in the history books, both in design and in ingenuity.

The idea for this museum grew over the years. Indeed, for several years now, the Maene team has made a habit of setting up temporary exhibitions of historical instruments in shopping malls, culture houses, culture fairs, piano festivals, etc. In 2015, Pianos Maene entered into a collaboration with the Industry Museum in Ghent, where the exhibition "Piano en Co" was realized for 6 months. The increasing interest of the public ensured the realization of this project.

Important partners in this museum project are the municipality of Sint-Gillis and the Musical Instrument Museum (MIM).
